Tell us about your career:
My career started in aviation, where I worked as an airplane mechanic for over five years. After that, I spent five years in software sales. Combined, these experiences led me to December of 2020, when I started a junk removal service.
The business was initially called Junk In The Truck. I advertised anywhere I could and did whatever I could to make each job work, but eventually I found a niche that frequently called me back: Multifamily. My multifamily customers appreciated how quickly I could get someone on site and the consistency I brought to every job.
As I worked more closely with these customers, I realized my entire process (from scheduling to payment) could be streamlined. Coincidentally, in August of 2021, I was introduced to my now business partner, Chris Parrish. Chris invested, and with that support we built out our technology and officially launched JunkGurus in November of 2022.
After launching, I joined the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association, and my involvement there helped grow JunkGurus into three states and counting. In my eyes, JunkGurus is still young and like every year, we have big goals for 2026 which includes a major refresh of our technology. I’m grateful for how far we’ve come, but even more excited about what’s yet to come.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
I would advise anyone who is beginning of 2 things: Be active in your local apartment association and think long term.
Being an active member in the Apartment Association has been one of the best tools for growing my business. This has gave JunkGurus visibility but has also allowed the industry to put a face to the business and helped establish essential relationships.
Lastly, by thinking long term I believe It has allowed me to have my customers best interests in mind which ultimately aligns with the best interest of JunkGurus and allows for long last lasting relationships.
