Tell us about your career:

I started in April 2018 with Greystar in Denver, Colorado. I was looking for another industry to get in because I was working in retail and I needed more of a consistent schedule as I was also attending graduate school full-time and working full-time. I had known about Greystar and property management so, I applied on Indeed and was called right away. New to the industry I was able to just be a sponge and absorb everything that was given to me. It was a great combination of all the things I like: legal, marketing, customer service, and meeting new people every day. I was promoted pretty quickly in July of 2019 to Assistant Manager and then COVID hit. All of our offices were open but, remained closed to the public. I then was promoted to Community Manager in July of 2021 and then I moved here to Raleigh in October of 2022. During my first week here I went to the After Networking Event, hosted by TAA and I met so many people! I quickly joined the Special Events Committee because I love planning events, as I have been a wedding planner for 5 years now! Now I am at my 2nd property here in the Raleigh area and I love it! I have a great relationship with the asset team which is so important to me as the manager. It is nice to be heard! I helped rebrand the property last year and now we are working on the model and the clubhouse which I have design control over which is amazing! Having that trust really makes you appreciate your job and the reason to come back for more each and every day. I have been with Greystar for a total of 7 years and I do not see myself working for a different property management company. I think my next step will be a lease up.... we shall see! 

What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:

Absorb everything and get involved with your local apartment association. It is going to give you the leverage you need to get to where you want to be. Volunteer to help out at properties and with any other activities.
