2022 Charities: Giving Back Across the State

AANC News, Member News,

What a year! As the AANC PR & Marketing Committee continues to push through our monthly initiatives like social media, E-Notes topics, the AANC Hall of Fame and more, we always want to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. This year has been full of our affiliates partnering with their local charities and other causes that are near and dear to our collective multifamily heart. Continue reading below for some highlights from 2022!

Apartment Association of Western North Carolina: At the September 2022 networking social, AAWNC members brought canned food items to support the MANNA Food Bank. AAWNC is proud to have donated 44 pounds of food!!!

Greater Charlotte Apartment Association: GCAA is proud to announce that they received $42,000 in charity contributions this year! They also have partnered with Levine Children's Hospital this holiday season to fulfill needed wish list items. Toys and items are distributed during the holidays and all throughout the year. Items will be dropped off at the GCAA BRAVO Awards Check-In on December 8, 2022.

Greater Fayetville Apartment Association: Every year through MY GFAA Cares, GFAA selects a local charity to support. This year, GFAA selected FAPS, the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society. The mission of FAPS is  to provide a licensed, No-Kill shelter for homeless animals until adopted; to reduce the population of stray animals, and to promote responsible pet ownership.  Over the past year, GFAA has promoted FAPS volunteer opportunities and wish-list items, welcomed FAPS at the annual trade show, and co-hosted with FAPS a field day.

Piedmont Triad Apartment Association: PTAA is currently doing their annual food drive with Second Harvest Food Bank, where they have been collecting canned goods and monetary donations to reach our goal of 500,000 meals. Their goal is to reach that number of meals by December 31, 2022. PTAA’s ECHO Committee started an annual toy drive to collect new and gently used toys for Backpack Beginnings in October. Also, their Ambassador and Programs Committees are co-hosting an annual coat drive event to collect new and gently used coats for Backpack Beginnings on December 6, 2022.

Triangle Apartment Association: TAA proudly worked with 3 different charity organizations this year. 1) They hosted a crayon and marker drive throughout the summer months that benefited Crayons to Calculators. These supplies were specifically earmarked for public school teachers in Durham County to assist them in restocking their classrooms. 2) They hosted a Day of Service with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Members served a day in October at either the Raleigh or the Durham location. Meals were boxed, vegetables and juice sorted/bagged, and lots of fellowship occurred. 3) They hosted a Happy Hour Headshots in partnership with the November After Work Networking event. Our members donated to A New Lease on Life in exchange for a professional headshot. Proceeds will help families moving into their new apartment homes.

Wilmington Apartment Association: WAA is working with The Carousel Center, a child advocacy center, this year. This organization coordinates the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of the most severe cases of child abuse in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties. WAA members have been raising donations at all 2022 networking and special events and have raised $3,500 as of 11/22/22.

It has been an honor to serve as your chair of this committee for the past two years. I know the incoming chair, Nikol Edwards with Blue Ridge Companies, will be moving mountains through 2023-2024! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season.
