NAA Update from Susan Passmore, NAA Region IV Vice President (Dec 2023)

AANC News,
NAA Update from Susan Passmore
Region IV Vice President

The National Apartment Association recently held its largest annual business meeting, the Assembly of Delegates, in San Diego. During the meetings, the Board of Directors approved the 2024 budget, which includes healthy funding for our education and advocacy efforts, and the Assembly of Delegates approved the 2024 Slate of Officers. The incoming slate includes two of Region 4’s very own advancing in their Officer service; Alan King as President Elect and Chris Burns as Vice Chair. Brian Chase, with Landmark Property Services, was elected Secretary.

Cultivate was held in Tucson, Arizona, in September. This was an inaugural NAA conference to bring peers together to advance their leadership skills and explore issues pertinent to the industry. Next year’s Cultivate will be held in Austin. Start planning now to attend and take collaborative deep dives.

Registration is now open for Advocate, March 12-13, in Washington, DC. Advocate – NAA’s annual advocacy conference – is the prime opportunity to meet with your Congressional representatives.

Registration for Apartmentalize 2024 is also now open. For the first time, Apartmentalize will be held in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. Education session and event details will be released in early December.

NAA’s Monthly Advocacy & Legal Updates is an NAA member and affiliate exclusive web series for partners yearning to uncover industry legal news and policy changes, sometimes straight from DC. The call is the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 3:30PM. If you'd like to register, please reach out to Nicole Upano at NAA.

I’d like to personally thank everyone who has donated to the NAA PAC this year. NAA had an aggressive PAC goal of $1.2M this year and I believe we are going to make it. The following North Carolina affiliates reached their Fund Our Future fair share goals in 2023: Piedmont Triad Apartment Association and Triangle Apartment Association. Greater Fayetteville Apartment Association and Apartment Association of Western North Carolina have also done exceedingly well this year and are almost to their annual goal.

And, with that, I bid you adieu. It has been a pleasure serving Region 4, and specifically North Carolina, for the last six years as your Region 4 RVP. I can’t express how thankful I am for the opportunity to serve, learn, and continue to build friendships in our wonderful industry. Your incoming RVP for 2024 is the amazing Lisa Taylor!

If I can ever be of assistance to you or your association, feel free to reach out.
