What does volunteer leader mean to you? Sharing my passion for an organization to hopefully motivate others to get involved. I hope that by being a volunteer leader I can motivate and prepare the next group for leadership.
What one word would you use to describe yourself? Passionate
Why do you volunteer? I love this industry. I have essentially grown up in the apartment industry and have a strong passion for it. I enjoy working together to make our associations stronger. Whether it be through education, advocacy, or community service. Multifamily is the perfect word on so many levels because we are more like FAMILY!
What advice do you have for someone who is just starting their career in the multifamily housing industry? The advice I would give to someone who is just starting their career in the multifamily industry is don't be afraid to get involved and raise your hand. Volunteer, whether it be a new project at the office or to join a committee at the local apartment association.
What is the best professional advice you have ever received? The best professional advice I have ever received was from Susan Passmore. She said to me, "You are only as good or successful as the people that you surround yourself with."
How do you push yourself through tough times? Truthfully, tough times can be stressful and wear you down. I have a strong tribe professionally and personally. I think it is important to have at least one person you can trust to go to when you just need to have your moment; cry, yell, tell you "actually you are wrong," or bring you back to reality. I always remember that each day is a new day and everything is better in the morning.
What tool do you use to manage your day? My outlook calendar. I also make lists on a paper calendar, you can never have too many calendars.
What do you like to do in your free time? I am blessed to have an incredible family of boys. I am a #boymom for sure. I have a soon to be 3 year old son and 6 year old son, wonderful husband, and a dog named Ace. I love every minute I get to spend with them. I do have a guilty pleasure of reality TV, I call that my brain break.
