AANC Board Spotlight | Liz Newkirk

AANC News,

Liz Newkirk (she/her) is a brand ambassador for the multifamily industry. She was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to North Carolina to attend Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU), in Charlotte, NC. There, Liz pursued a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, and a minor in Health Administration. While not busy studying, Liz indulged in her lifelong love of dance by performing with the JCSU Marching Band. After graduation, Liz took off her dancing shoes but decided to stay in Charlotte, where she still resides today.

Liz has always had an innate curiosity around how people think and what motivates them. Her desire to connect with individuals in an authentic way led to her first role in the multifamily industry as a leasing professional. She shares that “every interaction was a chance to test messaging, build trust, and influence behavior.” Since that time and for over five years, Liz has worked at Loebsack & Brownlee, honing and expanding her skills in branding and marketing, leading to her current role as Director of Brand Management.

Due to her hard work and dedication, Liz has held numerous leadership positions in the multifamily industry, including DEI Chair for both the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association (GCAA) and the Apartment Association of North Carolina (AANC). She is currently the Chair of the AANC Suppliers Council and was also the first Woman of Color to serve as President of the GCAA Suppliers Council. Liz has won Social Media of the Year more than five times and has also been recognized as:

  • DEI Champion of the Year from the Triangle Apartment Association (TAA)
  • Eddie J. Robinson DEI Award (as the first-ever recipient) from the GCAA
  • Two-time finalist for the NAA DEI Excellence Awards
  • Top 50 Women to Know by Know Women Media (2024)
  • Top Women Who Inspire by Dress for Success Charlotte (2025)

Dress for Success Charlotte is celebrating its fifth annual Your Hour, Her Power campaign this year, “honoring Women Who Inspire the Charlotte community through their demonstrated history of lifting other women as they climb their corporate, civic, and community ladders. The title, Your Hour, Her Power, rallies the Charlotte community to give one hour of (their) pay to empower one woman to change her job and economic realities.”

So, while many in the multifamily industry may already know Liz through her work with Loebsack & Brownlee, many others now know the name of Liz Newkirk due to her being featured on billboards in the Charlotte area as one of the Top Women Who Inspire.

Liz believes her journey in the multifamily industry has been shaped by “passion, people, and purpose.” Whether she’s building brands, championing DEI initiatives, or even dancing with the band, Liz’s dedication and commitment continues to empower and inspire all.
