Tell us about your career:
My time working in the multifamily apartment industry has been amazing. I’ve been in the industry for roughly three and a half years. I started off as contract turn help at Burkely Communities, which eventually led to the opportunity to become a Community Ambassador in their student housing division.
Since then, I’ve remained eager to learn and grow within the industry, which has brought me to my current role as a Resident Relations Manager. I find true happiness in helping residents make their day-to-day lives a little easier when they come home.
I often tell my co-workers that we are an important part of someone’s lifestyle, and I take great pride in that. I strive to create a comfortable, welcoming, and positive environment for all who live at our properties—because home should be more than a place, it should be a feeling.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
Working in the office side of the multifamily industry means no two days are ever the same. Within just 20 minutes, you can be fussed at, praised, and even hugged—and that’s the beauty of it. This role places you at the heart of people's everyday lives, and it's important to remember that you're a major part of someone’s lifestyle and living experience.
A wise maintenance technician once told me, “Behind every door onsite is a story being written.” That stuck with me, because it’s true—every resident is living their own chapter, and we have the opportunity to make a positive impact, even when things seem challenging.
Sometimes, a simple smile, a “How are you?” or a “Have a great day!” can go a long way. So lead with kindness, stay grounded, and greet each encounter with a genuine smile. You never know what that moment might mean to someone.
