Tell us about your career:
My career in real estate management and community association management has been built through a combination of operational leadership, continuous education, and hands-on experience. I started in property management and worked my way through various leadership roles by learning the business from the ground up, staying adaptable, and remaining committed to professional development. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to lead operations, mentor teams, speak at industry conferences, contribute to professional organizations such as Institute of Real Estate Management and Community Associations Institute, and author industry-focused publications centered on leadership and retention in property management.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
For someone just starting in this field, my advice would be:
-Learn the operations side of the business thoroughly. The strongest leaders understand the day-to-day realities of the work.
-Invest in education and professional designations early. Certifications and continued learning create opportunities and credibility.
-Do not be afraid to ask questions or take on difficult assignments. Growth often happens in uncomfortable situations.
-Build relationships and maintain professionalism. This industry is smaller than people realize, and your reputation matters.
-Remember that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about being willing to listen, learn, adapt, and support your team.

Real estate management is often viewed as simply managing buildings or associations, but in reality, it is a career built around leadership, service, strategy, and problem-solving. It is a challenging industry, but it can also be incredibly rewarding for individuals who are passionate about making an impact on communities, residents, clients, and teams. I am a strong believer that property management and community association management are careers by choice, not by chance, and there are tremendous opportunities for growth for those willing to invest in themselves and the profession.
