AANC Board Spotlight | Lisa Taylor

AANC News,

Lisa Taylor (she/her) works for Greystar as the Senior Managing Director, Client Services Build-to-Rent and Single-Family Rentals and is at the forefront of the multifamily industry. Yet, in the 80’s Lisa found herself on the sidelines of professional soccer, as a cheerleader for Charlotte’s Carolina Lightnin’. Around the same time, in the era of Flashdance and parachute pants, she attended the Art Institute of Charlotte where she studied Fashion and Marketing, not yet realizing the path her professional career would take. Lisa’s mother, Betty Smith, was working in property management at the time and played a key role in helping Lisa secure a position in on-site leasing with Summit Properties (acquired by Camden Properties Trust in 2005). From on-site leasing, Lisa was hired by Nancy Freeman and moved into third-party management as a Regional Vice President at Trammell Crow Residential Services. Her trajectory in the multifamily industry continued when she was hired by Greystar, who had approximately 50,000 units at the time, but none in the Carolinas.

Lisa’s career with Greystar grew through sheer determination, often finding herself begging suppliers and potential candidates to return her calls. Today, she leads their Third-Party portfolio in the Build-to-Rent sector, a position she’s held since its inception. Alongside Lisa’s professional growth, Greystar has also grown, now a global company in 17 countries, with more than a million units under management and 140,000 homes/units in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Outside of becoming a leader at Greystar, Lisa has also become a leader in the multifamily industry as a whole. She is grateful for all the support she has received throughout her career and appreciates her early mentors, Mary Beth Woodard and Ken Szymanski, for championing her career and industry advancement. In 2015, Lisa received the Lex Marsh Award, in recognition of her demonstrated leadership and longevity within the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association (GCAA) and in 2023, she was inducted into the AANC Hall of Fame. Her leadership roles include:

  • AANC Board of Directors since 2011
  • AANC Board President from 2023-2024
  • NAA Board of Directors, Regional IV Vice President since 2024
  • NAA Region IV Trustee
  • NAA committee member
  • GCAA Board Chair and RHA Chair
  • Member of John Burn Real Estate Consulting New Home Trend Institute BTR Council

Thanks to an opportunity to relocate to Greystar’s headquarters, Lisa now lives in Charleston, SC, and shares that it has always been a goal of hers to “live in such a beautiful city, known for its historic architecture, stunning beaches, and rich history that serves as a reminder of the past events we should never forget.” With a goal of recapturing the energy and fitness of her cheering years, Lisa is currently focused on improving her health through diet and exercise.  She admits that “shopping doesn’t burn enough calories,” so is working on increasing her daily walks and runs with hopes of participating in more 5Ks in the future.

Lisa and her husband, Greg, have been together since he was 17 and she was 14, and have recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. They have three daughters—Chloe, Savannah, and Baylee— who all have successful careers in the multifamily industry, just as their mother and grandmother before them.

As Lisa celebrates 20 years with Greystar, her passion for the multifamily industry and dedication to personal growth are clear. If ever there were a shining example of a phrase, the multi-generations of women in Lisa’s family more than demonstrate the concept of “We are Multifamily,” providing inspiration and a lasting legacy for generations to come.
