Tell us about your career:
I began my career with Brownlee Whitlow & Praet in 2018. When I took the position, I didn’t know how rewarding it would be to help residential management companies and property owners navigate the complexities of landlord/tenant law—and how much I’d grow in the process.
In 2021, I was promoted to Managing Attorney in our Charlotte office. During that time I helped grow our office from a two-attorney operation into a thriving team of five attorneys and three paralegals.
Today, I’m proud to serve as a Partner and the Director of our North Carolina Landlord/Tenant Department. I lead a talented team of more than 20 attorneys and paralegals across our Cary and Charlotte offices. Together, we provide legal support that’s not only reliable, but also deeply aligned with the real-world needs of our clients.
Beyond the legal work, I’ve learned the value of strong client relationships, effective team leadership, and strategic business development. I take pride in building systems that empower our attorneys to do their best work—and in fostering a team culture that’s both high-performing and supportive.
This industry is constantly evolving, and so am I. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and every client is a partner in progress.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
To young lawyers I would say don't underestimate the value of consistency. You don’t have to know everything on day one. What matters is showing up prepared, staying curious, and being reliable. Clients and colleagues will remember the way you carry yourself, the care you put into your work, and the trust you build over time.
Also: learn to manage people early. Whether it’s a client relationship, a paralegal, or another attorney, communication and leadership skills will serve you just as much if not more than your legal knowledge.
Anything else you would like to share:
I’ve had the chance to work with some incredibly dedicated people—clients, colleagues, industry partners, and that’s what keeps me invested. I enjoy being part of the progress in this industry. Whether it’s through teaching, writing legislation, or just helping someone solve a tough issue, I hope my work makes things a little better for the people who come next.
