Tell us about your career:

I have been in the multifamily housing industry since 2004, working my way up from a temporary leasing fill in, to full time leasing professional, to assistant manager, and now community manager. I have worked in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill markets for various companies over the years in a variety of different style communities before finding my home at Hawthorne Residential, which has let me grow my career with them even more! A few years back, I joined the special events committee at the Triangle Apartment Association and found my people and an association that allowed me to stretch new and different skills. I've been co-chair for trade shows and galas, and then last year was encouraged to be on the board of directors for the TAA. Since then, I have been excited to be part of the many exciting things happening in and around the Triangle Multifamily Industry. I was so pleased to attend this year's ConnectEd conference and be able to meet with various NC representatives and senators to have conversations about my chosen industry!

What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:

The moment I went from "just a job" to "this is my career" is when I began to get involved and connect with other professionals and vendors, going to events, and talking shop with others in my industry. I learned that it is okay to have a work/life balance, and that while money is always nice, culture is the most important factor to success. That just accelerated when I actively participated in the Triangle Apartment Association and has helped me grow not only my own skills, but create a network of people that allow me to always seek new growth, new challenges, and expand my understandings of the many ways this industry impacts where I call home.
