Stuff the Bus is the annual school supply drive organized by Communities In Schools of Cape Fear, the region’s oldest and largest back-to-school initiative. Each year the campaign collects new backpacks, notebooks, writing supplies, and other essential items for students in public schools across New Hanover and Pender counties. In 2026, the main collection events took place in mid-August, with school buses stationed at local retailers and dozens of yellow donation barrels placed throughout the community.

From July 16th through August 8th, the staff and residents of Pier 33 Apartments by Drucker and Falk actively supported the 26th annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive by purchasing supplies, collecting donations from residents, packaging items, transporting them to designated drop-off locations, and helping to stuff the collection buses. Pier 33’s involvement strengthened community participation and supported Communities In Schools of Cape Fear’s mission to surround students with the resources they need to succeed by removing material barriers that can lead to chronic absenteeism and enabling students to start the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

Leasing and Marketing Manager Luke Vogel of Pier 33 was interviewed about the community’s involvement and shared “Seeing our community give to another community, it meant a lot. It shows who the community is. They’re very giving.”
