AANC Board Spotlight | April Girard

AANC News, Member News,

April Girard has spent much of her life building a successful career in the multifamily industry. Born in Texas, although raised primarily in Virginia, April began her career in multifamily as a leasing agent almost 20 years ago. Through dedication and a strong work ethic, she advanced to a portfolio property manager position with Main Street Realty in Richmond, VA.

Realizing that multifamily was where she wanted to be, April made the decision to leave Main Street Realty to accept a position as an Operations Manager with Arthur Riggs Real Estate Group. In her new role, she oversaw multifamily operations and served as the owner's representative during the sale of much of the company's portfolio. As the company prepared to close and transition its remaining properties, Drucker + Falk assumed management responsibilities through the portfolio sales. April also transitioned to a position with Drucker + Falk and, just a year later, was presented with a chance to relocate.

"I've always loved the beach," April says. "It had always been a goal of mine to continue my career while living near the coast."

After vacationing in North Topsail Beach and returning home to Richmond, Virginia, April received an email about a Regional Property Manager position with Drucker + Falk in Wilmington, North Carolina.  She immediately recognized it as the next step in her journey, although the move required significant commitment and a leap of faith. April and her family sold their home, vehicle, recreational equipment, and many of their belongings before quickly relocating to just outside North Topsail Beach, approximately 45 minutes north of Wilmington.

April has now been with Drucker + Falk for six years as a Regional Property Manager and has remained committed to professional development throughout her career. Prior to leaving Virginia, when she discovered her passion for real estate and property management, she earned her Virginia Real Estate License. She has also pursued industry certifications, including the National Apartment Association's Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) and Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) designations. In 2025, April was named Regional Manager of the Year by the Wilmington Apartment Association (WAA). She also served as WAA Secretary in 2025 and currently serves as Vice President for 2026, while also currently serving on the AANC Board of Directors.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, family remains at the center of April's life. She and her husband have three children and three grandchildren. When she's not overseeing properties or participating in industry leadership, April enjoys spending time with her family on the beach, shelling or boating and simply enjoying the beauty of the North Carolina coast.

From her beginnings as a leasing agent to becoming an award-winning regional leader in the multifamily industry, April has demonstrated that success is built through experience, determination, and a willingness to embrace change. Today, as she continues to lead teams while also enjoying life along the North Carolina coast, April remains a testament to the power of following both professional ambitions and personal dreams.
