Will Brownlee practiced law for 19 years on behalf of landlords in North Carolina and South Carolina and has been active in the apartment industry for over 21 years. Will founded two law firms whose attorneys continue to represent landlords and management companies throughout North Carolina and South Carolina in the areas of evictions, real estate and landlord-tenant law, and fair housing defense. Will also served as the author of the AANC Lease forms and the AANC Legal Handbook; he also served the National Apartment Association (NAA) as its local counsel for revisions and necessary updates to its standard lease forms used in NC and SC. Committed to landlord education, Will regularly instructed legal seminars to rental industry members throughout the Carolinas. Will served as Executive Director of the Apartment Association of North Carolina, and is now enjoying retirement.
"I feel Will’s biggest impact was in continual drafting and tightening the AANC lease which also led to important lobbying efforts on our behalf. It might be said that no one in the state understands NC landlord tenant law better than Will Brownlee. I have always found him to be wise, sagacious and full of insight."
"When I started with Brownlee Law Firm in January 2007 I had no idea of all the turns and twists presented within the legal umbrella of multi-family representation. Up until that point most of my experience with leases were on the commercial side or as a tenant myself. Thus, it was a great pleasure to get indoctrinated into this area of the law by one of the best around. I am fairly confident that if you cut Will Brownlee open, he will bleed the fabric of the multi-family industry. Our industry is very blessed to have so many investors, developers, managers and vendors/business partners that care so much about the advancement of the industry as a whole; and there is not a person among them who cared more about advancing the cause of this industry than Will Brownlee.
He has given countless hours to working on the state Lease, legislative issues and representing clients throughout the state frequently sacrificing time with his wife and daughter in the process. He was all I could ever ask for in a mentor as much of what I know about the multi-family industry I learned from Will."
"Will Brownlee has been such an instrumental part of our local associations with his passion for landlord tenant law. He was truly dedicated and it was evident with his service on our Board of Directors, his service to developing and maintaining the AANC lease, and his countless hours teaching our members. I remember meeting Will for the first time when I attended my first Legal Issues class early in my career. Will made learning and understanding landlord tenant law enjoyable and interesting. That class shaped my outlook on the relationship I had with my tenants and empowered me to continue my growth in the industry. I feel privileged to have learned so much from him and to have witnessed many of his rock star moments in our industry."
